Those of you who attend St Mark’s will be very familiar with the batik at the back of the worship area which was a piece of schoolwork created by the daughter of former members and given to the church to be displayed around the time the church was opened in the 1980’s.
As we approach the celebration of our 40th year in the building, the proposal is to archive the batik, which is looking a little tired, and use the area to create a dynamic space that will be an attractive frame to display seasonal and community art which is fitting as part of our worshipping area. The idea is to construct a wooden frame of the same width and height as the previous frame with removable fabric backing and threaded hoop and eye fittings on which to display art, flowers, photos, postcards etc. which will change with the season. You can read more about it in the proposal document here and see a mock-up of the frame at church on Sunday.
Please have a chat with Nicola if you have any questions or concerns about the plan or about the batik.
Thanks!
