We have recently set up a couple of tablet devices at St Mark’s which are on hand to help anyone who struggles to read the service slides on the main screen. These iPads will allow the person using one to access the slides for the service, to pinch and zoom, scroll or read at their own pace. However, they will be set up so that the user can’t accidentally drop out of the slide deck or “wander off” into other apps on the iPad: this is to make them simple and straightforward to use.
In order to get the iPads into this “locked down” state, we will be using a feature of the iPad called “Guided Access”. This is where you come in! Each time we have someone who wants to use an iPad, we will need somebody else (that’s you!) to grab the tablet from the office, launch the slides and then turn on Guided Access. There are only a few, simple steps and there will be both training as well as a set of step-by-step guidance. You will also need, at the end of the service, to get the iPad back and do even fewer steps to get it out of Guided Access and put it back on charge.
We need a small team of volunteers (No, we’re not going to create a rota!) so that there’s always a good chance that one of the team will be at St Mark’s on any given day. You don’t need to know anything about computers. You just need to be willing to take a couple of minutes to get access to a tablet for somebody who needs one so that they can be fully included in our worship.
Please talk to Jon if you’d like to know more or are already willing to volunteer. And thank you.
