I know that we have only just reflected on the infant Jesus being presented in the temple… but we now move towards the season of Lent which begins on Wednesday 18th February- forty days (excluding Sundays) to remember Jesus’ time in the wilderness and his testing before he begins his ministry, culminating in the events of Holy Week. Traditionally Lent is a time of self-examination, repentance, study, generosity to those in need and preparation for the celebration of Easter.
As we walk this path together we begin with our Ash Wednesday service. Ashes are an ancient sign of repentance; from the middle ages it became the custom to begin Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross, and we will be continuing this tradition.
We’d love to see you, Wed 18th Feb, 7pm at St Mark’s Church, as we commit ourselves again to following Jesus through darkness and back into light- ‘Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ.’
